The Voltaic Cell
Two metals in an electrolyte — connected by a wire. One pushes electrons, one receives them. That flow of electrons is electricity.
Negative Electrode (−)
Zinc is chemically restless. Its atoms dissolve into the liquid, leaving their electrons behind. Those orphaned electrons are the raw material of the current.
Positive Electrode (+)
Copper is the calm metal. It does not dissolve — it waits. Electrons arriving through the wire are accepted here. The bigger the gap between the two metals in reactivity, the greater the voltage they produce.
The Wire & Bulb
Electrons are forced through the wire from − to +. When they squeeze through the bulb's thin filament, it heats up and glows. That is your light.
The Electrolyte
The liquid referee. It cannot carry electrons — they go through the wire. But it carries ions that complete the circuit inside the beaker. Without it, the reaction stops instantly.
